Roman Catholicism is the state religion, but there is freedom of religion, though proselytism is strongly discouraged and frowned upon. Prayerlist:
Monaco is culturally Catholic, but the real culture is one of materialistic hedonism. It is very difficult to foster interest in spiritual things in such an environment. Pray that many would see the ultimate emptiness of such a lifestyle and seek the fullness of life Christ offers.
The expatriate community is 78.5% of the population. Apart from the prevalent Catholic Church, three congregations serve the expatriate community – Anglican, French Reformed and the strongly evangelical, bilingual Monaco Christian Fellowship. Pray that committed believers in all three might impact the whole of society.
Evangelicals are so few that their impact is limited, especially in the hard spiritual ground that is Monaco. But the great numbers of nationalities (more than 160) in Monaco, and the highly transitory nature of many expats there, represent a good opportunity to reach the nations from this small principality. Pray for culturally appropriate witness in a context where evangelism is regarded as socially unacceptable.
Christian radio. TWR broadcasts from Monaco have had a wide audience for years (using transmitters there – TWR has no staff in Monaco). Powerful medium- and short- wave transmitters broadcast in 10 European and four North African languages. Pray for spiritual impact on the materialistic and indifferent cultures of Europe and the much more spiritually responsive ones in North Africa.
