I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Many have the idea that Europe is a closed and cold continent when it comes to God and the Bible, but this is not true. Thousands of people all over Europe are already seeking God and many of them are sitting at home searching the Internet and reading their Bibles . They just don’t know any Christians that can help them find their way and all to often there are no Christian fellowship in the town they are living.
A seeking soul
Some weeks ago we got contacted by a lady who wanted to get baptized. I got kind of puzzled and ask to meet her first so I could hear her story. It turned out that she, as most Polish people, had grown up as a Catholic. But as she was reading her Bible she did not recognize what she saw in the Bible with what she saw in the church.
Later she got in contact with some Jehovah Witnesses and was happy to meet them because they where at least studying the Bible. She started to come to their meetings and got more and more involved in their work but one day when she was sitting at a meeting her eyes was suddenly opened and she just knew that this was wrong.
She broke contact with them and even though they tried to get her back she knew this was not the path. She started to read the Bible by her self and searched the Internet and from her own studies she saw that she needed to get baptized.
Through FaceBook she meet someone in Warszawa who knew us and that we where living in Lublin, where she also lived - so she contacted us with the request to be baptized.
We met her and could immediately sense that she was a disciple of Jesus. We heard her testimony and arranged a time for baptism. We also encourage here to find a Christian fellowship and it turned out that she was living quite close to a pastor we knew (and now she is coming to his church).
The ripple effect
But the story doesn’t end there, because she had a son in England that also was seeking God. Not long after she contacted us again because her son also wanted to get baptized.
So we arranged a new day where we met with him and heard his story. As I was listening to him it became so clear to me that there are many people out there that are totally open and ready.
Often we think our job is to try and make the harvest ready for the Gospel, but the harvest is already ready - our job is just to gather in the harvest. We don’t need to make people open to the Gospel - we just need to let the Spirit lead us to those who already are open.
I guess it’s needless to say that we that day had a new baptism. Afterwards we prayed for him and Michael got a word of knowledge that turned out to be right and God healed him from a back pain he had suffered with for a long time.
Afterwards we blessed both him and his mother and we believe that God is not finished with this family.
Seek and save those that are open
We probably know the scripture saying “The son of Man has come to seek and save that which is lost...” and this is true because people are not really open to receiving until they see their need. We often spend so much time trying to get people open to the Gospel, presenting it with cool music and flashing lights. But I believe the Harvest in Europe is ready. So let us pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us to those people that already are open and ready to receive.
