As some of you might know we have recently been facing a new challenge. The owners of the house we have been using as a base have decided to move back to Lublin, which meant that we were given two months to find a place.
It was quite a big faith project but God is good and thanks to Him we have managed to find a good place and got the deposit money we needed.
All of this happened while we were busy doing the work here. Now we just have to wait until the last week in May and then we will completely concentrate on moving.
At the beginning of April we arranged a gathering for people who wanted to get more involved in evangelism. We were a little uncertain about how many would come, but we became positively surprised because there actually came about 25 people.
The purpose of the day in Janów Lubelski was to inspire and teach about evangelism, as well as go out and practise. I taught two sessions about preaching the Gospel and about the need of God’s power. Then Michael and Elin told some testimonies and shared their experience from the evangelism we do here in Lublin.
Janów Lubelski is a little town of about 12,000 people which doesn’t have a living evangelical church. However, Jehova’s Witnesses were apparently active in the town because when we went out, we met several of them. One of them was actually more open than most other Jehova’s Witnesses I had met, and even wanted to be prayed for.
Some of those who came to the gathering were completely new in the faith and therefore had not been out in the streets to evangelise before, but after going out together with Michael they got on fire and wanted to do more of that.
As we wrote in the previous newsletter, the car broke down while we were on our way to Opole in March. The same thing happened when were heading for Tarnów in April, but this time it was the water pump that broke down.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the car breaks down every time we go on a mission trip because otherwise we never have problems with it. However, the devil didn’t stop us and with a little help we managed to get to Tarnów, even though we arrived a bit later than we had planned.
In Tarnów we were supposed to meet a group whose members had got to know one another through The Last Transformation website. It was a mixed group from various denominations but they had experienced a renewal through the work that Torben Søndergaard does and they fervently wanted to experience more.
They had asked me to teach about how to preach the Gospel and about the baptism in the Holy Spirit so on Saturday we first had some teaching and then we went to the streets to preach the Good News and pray for the sick. I went out together with a local leader and his wife. One of the people we met was an alcoholic whose hip was in a bad shape. We prayed for him and suddenly all the pain disappeared. He almost started to cry and couldn’t understand why God wanted to heal him because he was an alcoholic.
We talked to him a little more and he said that because of the alcohol he had big problems with his stomach. While we were praying for that, he felt that his stomach had got settled and the headache caused by drinking had disappeared. Wojtek, whom I went together with, got his number and they arranged to meet again to talk a little more.
When we came back from town, we were told that one of those who were together with us wanted to get baptised in water. Therefore after a meal we filled up a bath tub and got ready for the baptism. Afterwards we prayed for her, and then she also got baptised in the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues. First she thought that the words she was saying were her own because they sounded so strange. I asked her to tell us what words she had received, and she said it was ”Maran Ata”. When I told her they were from the Bible and explained their meaning, she got really excited.
Evangelism in Lublin
One of the days when Michael, Elin and Line were taking a bus home from town, they noticed a man who was there together with his girlfriend and daughter, and was looking at them a little strangely. After a while he asked Michael if he remembered him. Michael couldn’t recall meeting him right away, but realised who he was after he had explained it.
Soon after we had moved to Lublin, Michael and Andreas had met him on a bus. He was drunk and wanted to fight, but after a short conversation he actually knelt down together with them in the street and prayed. He had just left the prison, given up drinking and didn’t have any particular perspectives ahead. After they had prayed together, he experienced a change and became so grateful that he gave away his sweater to Michael. Michael wanted to be nice and accepted it, but didn’t think much more about it because he keeps meeting new people all the time.
When they met the man again, he was sober, said he was able to control his life and was there together with his girlfriend and daughter. It’s not always one sees the results of evangelism immediately, but that man is a good example that there can happen more than you see here and now. Before they parted, the man got the address of the church and we pray that he takes another step, gets saved and becomes part of a fellowship.
A new base
I assume we will have some pictures of the new base in the next newsletter. Please pray for us because it’s a little faith project, but at the same time we feel this is God’s will. If you want to come and visit us, this is also by all means possible.
