Read how God interrupted a street meeting and opened the door for a team
to preach the Gospel to the homeless in a Catholic church
To stand on a bench in town to preach the Gospel is not a typical "European" thing to do, but God has never let Himself get limited by what people think is "normal". When the team from the Veien Bible school was in Poland, we experienced that this perhaps a little non-traditional way to preach the Gospel opened the door we hadn't even thought about.
It started with Steinar standing on a stone in the pedestrian area and starting to preach the Gospel. While he was standing there, a man approached him, started to comment and then walked away.
After a little while Steinar stood on the stone again and started to preach the Gospel one more time. The same man approached him and interrupted him, asking if he could preach to the homeless.
Before the team trip we had been talking about a possibility to talk to the homeless, alcoholics and drug addicts, but we didn't have any contacts there so nothing had been done about that. However, when that happened, we understood that God had intervened.
The team was led through an old gate into a chapel where a group of homeless people was watching a film about Maria's revelations. The walls were full of icons and decorated with paintings of various saints, and it was clear that it was a Catholic chapel, not a Protestant church.
When the team came in, the film about Maria got stopped and the team was encouraged to preach the Gospel to the homeless who were there. Ruben shared a testimony of how Jesus had set him free from drugs and everything connected with that lifestyle, as well as how Jesus had given him a new life. That testimony really touched them and before Ruben was finished, he got interrupted because they wanted him to pray for them.
Then the team was allowed to pray for those who were gathered and God's presence came in a really powerful way. Many of them experienced getting touched by God's love, tears began to roll down, people got healed and suddenly the Kingdom of God was among them.
Before the trip we hadn't had any expectation when it comes to getting invited to preach the Gospel in a Catholic church and since we hadn't had any contacts with the homeless, it wasn't anything we had prepared, either. However, God can open doors we think consider to be closed and when we are willing to position ourselves, He can lead us into the deeds prepared for us.
